As the new year approaches, I would like to take a moment to look back on the past year. It is a time to reflect on what went well and to learn from our experiences.
Basket of Opportunities
The basket of stocks selected by our algorithm at Exclusive Signals Stock Trading (ESST) is composed of fundamentally strong and promising stocks. In 2022, when the markets were somewhat turbulent, our basket consisted of approximately 350 stocks. Now we are seeing the US stock market recover and the number of stocks in our basket steadily grow again.
Every week, our algorithm ranks these stocks based on various criteria, from very interesting to less interesting. Stocks that show a downward trend or have low trading volumes are excluded in advance by our algorithm. The top stocks are included in our portfolio.
Smart Allocation
Our algorithm also takes into account the medium-term trend of the general markets. In upward markets, our money is fully invested, but in downward markets, we invest with caution. There are even times during sharp market declines when we do not trade at all. We are proud that our algorithm is often already in cash before the markets weaken significantly.
This allocation strategy has helped us reduce risk, which ultimately contributed to our impressive returns. This has quickly propelled our portfolio to new record highs.
A Look at 2023
The year 2023 began with the aftermath of the downward market in 2022. After an initial rise in the first six weeks, the market underwent a correction in mid-March and several large US banks fell. After these challenges, the markets gradually recovered until the summer of 2023. August, September, and October brought a somewhat sharper correction of around -10%. Fortunately, November brought good news when the Fed announced that interest rates could be cut in three steps in 2024. This stimulated the markets, and November and December were two fantastic months.
ESST in 2023
January was a challenging month for ESST, with a small loss. Things improved after that, and by the end of July we had achieved a profit of 16.5%. However, in the more difficult months of August, September, and October, we lost 7.98% of our profit. Fortunately, we ended November and December with a profit of 29.6%. Apart from January, we were profitable throughout the year, with a total profit of +33.18%!
