It has been a while since I last wrote about the stock market. And that's despite the fact that between 2001 and 2006 I published daily updates on Ruud's AEX. In fact, I was the first to write a daily commentary on the ins and outs of the AEX. But now, a little grayer and with more experience under my belt, I am picking up my pen again with renewed enthusiasm.
The Global Strategy portfolio focuses on global trends, with the aim of managing risk. However, this is easier said than done, especially when you choose stocks that are rising sharply. One wrong announcement and a stock can plummet. But without them in your portfolio, you won't benefit from the rises either.
January was another month full of fluctuations with strange ups and downs. Ultimately, the portfolio ended up with a return of +1.87%, which I can live with.
My best move this month? Buying Palantir at $67.80. Today, the stock made a huge jump from $80 to $100. The biggest winner in the portfolio was Meta, which is no surprise. The biggest loser? Nvidia, a stock you almost have to own given the AI hype.
Since the portfolio was launched in October, the total return stands at +8.06% (€2,000 profit), which is not bad at all.
Currently, 80% of the portfolio is invested. I am waiting to make new purchases until I see interesting opportunities.
Sometimes people ask about my track record prior to this portfolio. I don't have a representative track record, simply because I didn't have any fixed start-up capital at the time and sometimes had more money in the market than other times. That's why I thought it would be fairer to start from scratch and document everything transparently.
On to the next update!
Kind regards,
